Fire Protection Plan - Public Review

Given recent increases in wildfire frequency and severity throughout Utah, on March 28, 2020, the Governor signed House Bill 66 ‘Wildland Fire Planning and Cost Recovery’. The law requires qualified utility and electric cooperatives to prepare and submit for approval a wildland fire protection plan in accordance with the requirements outlined in the Bill.

SWCA Environmental Consultants was contracted to help Raft River Rural Electric Coop, Inc. (RREC) prepare the Wildland Fire Protection Plan (Plan). The Plan describes the range of activities that RREC is taking or considering to mitigate the threat of power-line ignited wildfire, including the protocols and procedures that RREC would undertake, as well as industry best practices. The Plan was approved by the Board of Directors on May 27th, 2020. After incorporating comments from RREC and the board, the Plan was sent to several stakeholders including representatives from Forestry, Fire, and State Lands (FFSL), Box Elder County, the BLM, and the US Forest Service.

The Plan is now ready for public review. Follow the link below to view the Plan. Please send comments on the Plan to Project Manager- Victoria Amato, at vamato@swca.com. All comments need to be submitted by midnight on July 5th.
